If you’ve been following along, you will know that my seventh book, The Gatekeeper’s Daughter, is currently in revision. What that really means is I am currently spending every day working through my manuscript chapter by chapter and line by line.
The big picture, developmental edit is done. Now for a closer look. Characterization, plot points, flow. Does each chapter serve to move the story forward? Unfortunately, the answer is no. There have been many cuts, some more painful than others.
I am very thankful for an astute editor who is helping me polish the rough edges off of my story. I know, once the dust settles, it will be much better for it.
Up until now, I have depended on friends and family to read rough drafts but it looks like I am finally going to have some critique partners, people who can be objective and brutally honest about my writing. I am both excited and terrified.
This is the second round of edits. After this there will be one more where all the fine details will be examined. That is still ahead of me. There always seems to be more work ahead but I know each step is necessary to get this story into the hands of its readers.
