Opening my first box of books blissfully unaware of what was coming!

I’ve been thinking about my first books, a trilogy that was released in 2020. Trying to market during lockdown when stores were closed and in-person events were cancelled. I was reminded of God’s faithfulness and those two words of the Bible that mean so much to me: but God. Those words are used over and over to show God’s sovereignty.

In Genesis: “But God remembered Noah…” and “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good,…” In Exodus, “But God led the people…” and in 1 Samuel: “…but God did not give him into his hand.”

God remembers, He decides, He leads, He protects. On January 1st, 2020 when my first book released, I had no idea what was coming. But God did.

That month, I heard about a large gathering of youth just after the book released and they allowed me to come and speak about the book and why I wrote it. My local library generously offered space for my first book launch. And word got out.

By the time the second installment was launched, the world had closed its doors. I donated the books to the library and stocked our little free libraries in our small town. I mailed them out all over the country. Elderly ladies in our church prayed for me and the books, that they would be a blessing. It wasn’t an ideal time to launch books but God knew and He was, as always, faithful.

The third and final book came out in August of that year. I was selling them online and dropping them off in mailboxes. I got to know our local postmistresses as I was in frequently to mail out packages. Social media became more important than it ever was, for me as an author, and it was a steep learning curve.

God is faithful. He is sovereign. We make our plans but at the same time, leave room for Him to alter them. Always for our good and His glory.
