Penelope: A Companion Book to the Forged in Flames Series has arrived and I am excited to share this story because I feel this so deeply: we are more alike than different.
We may not all have Down syndrome like Penelope but we all know how it feels to struggle to fit in, to be picked last for the team, to face bullying just because of who we are, the colour of our skin or the way we look.
Every high school student can relate to the chaos of emotions, the worries over grades, and the fear of moving away from friends and family for post-secondary study.
We all know that tug-of-war, having one foot still in childhood while the other is planted firmly in the adult world. And many of us know what it is like to navigate family breakup, addictions, grief, disabilities and loneliness while we straddle those two worlds.
For this reason, I write young adult novels with characters that struggle with the same things we all face. We are more alike than different.
