Have you noticed the change in childrens’ books? Does it alarm you? It should.

Over the last two generations, we have seen a massive slide in the morality portrayed in kids’ books.

These kinds of books have infiltrated our schools and libraries pushing aside books with traditional values in favour of following the trends in our society. Those trends or agendas are created by dei, lgbt, blm and other communities.

Books like these go against the values you have tried to instil in your homes. Values like honesty, integrity, courage, friendship, selflessness. These books undermine your authority as parents. They belittle traditional families with one mom and one dad. They cast doubt and fear into the minds of our children. They introduce them to things that they are far too young to comprehend. And these are the books that kids innocently circle on the flyers from school, the ones that come home from book fairs, the ones you pay for.

Do you know what your kids are reading? Many will say, ‘my kids don’t read’, and that in itself is cause for alarm. Reading expands vocabulary in a way nothing else can. Reading creates an environment very unlike the one children inhabit when they are placed in front of screens. Children who read are never bored. They have learned that within those pages they can go on adventures, solve mysteries and meet heroes.

There are authors and publishers rising up to fight against this growing movement to take over the stories of childhood. People who care about what our children read, who produce wholesome literature with traditional values, whose only goal is to create good stories for kids.

If we want our children to have access to a better choice then we need to support these people. Invest in those publishing houses. Buy the books. Buy them for your children, your grandchildren. Buy them for the neighbour’s children, your nieces and nephews. Spread the word. There is a way to reinforce the values that you are trying to raise your kids with.

I am one of those authors and you might say this is all about self-promotion but you’d be wrong. I am a children’s author and I write books to inspire, entertain and educate kids. I do believe it’s important to get good books into the hands and hearts of children but I am not the only one doing that and I work hard to promote other like-minded authors. I use my website and social media to showcase their work so that parents see there are books they can trust for every kind of reader.

My book, The Gatekeeper’s Daughter: Cavern of Light, will be released December 1st. My publisher, Chicken Scratch Books, is one of those houses that is trying to fill the gap by producing good clean books for middle-grade kids.

The Gatekeeper’s Daughter is an undersea mystery adventure with themes of friendship, family ties, faith and building community. If that sounds like something you want your kids to read, please pick up a copy.

You will be able to purchase the book online and in store everywhere starting Dec. 1st. If you’d rather not wait, I do have limited personal copies for sale.

For those in Cochrane, Ontario, I will be at the Pavilion today, Thursday, Oct. 10th for Live at the Lakeside.

If you can’t make it, you can use the Contact Me page in the menu to order a copy.

Publisher pre-orders start November 1st. I will be posting a link for that option.

Please show your support for the writers and businesses who are trying to ensure wholesome books are available for generations to come! Buy their books and spread the word. They are a beacon of hope for children’s literature.
